Michael is a 1979 graduate of Eastern Illinois University.
He is a founding partner in Gilbert, Metzger & Madigan, LLP. Prior to forming Gilbert, Metzger & Madigan LLP, Michael joined Larsson, Woodyard & Henson CPA’s in December of 1978 as a staff accountant. He was admitted to partnership in 1985.
Michael is a member of the American Institute of CPA's and the Illinois CPA Society.
His areas of special interest include income taxation and planning for small businesses, agricultural related businesses, and estate and retirement planning. He provides individual and corporate taxation services, as well as accounting and advisory services for the firm's diverse client base.
His current community involvement includes serving as President of the Charleston Area Charitable Foundation, a private foundation supporting the Charleston area; and President of the Fuqua Foundation, a private foundation supporting charitable organizations in the Coles County area. He served on the Board of Directors of Clear Water Service Corporation for 31 years. His leadership roles for Clear Water included Treasurer and President, prior to his retirement from the Board in 2020. He served as President and Finance director for Catholic Charities of Coles, Douglas and Edgar Counties during his 12 years of service to their advisory board of directors. Michael is an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston.
Michael was honored with the 2013 Citizen of the Year Award by the Charleston Chamber of Commerce.
